AFRICAN THUNDER PLATINUM -- A platinum/palladium producer in South Africa

African Thunder Platinum (“ATP”) is a private company which was acquired in late 2014 with Pala Investments--Aberdeen and Pala each hold 47%. ATP holds two strategic, low-cost PGM assets

i) the past producing Smokey Hills PGM mine in the Eastern Limb and

ii) the world class Kalplats PGM development project in the Kraaipan Greenstone Belt 330 km west of Johannesburg.

Smokey Hills Mine
In 2015, the Smokey Hills PGM mine produced 234,000 tons of ore and development material at an average grade of 3.1 g/t 4E PGM (platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold) and total production of 16,381 oz 4E. As ATP continues to ramp up to commercial production levels, underground production in February achieved approximately 80% of the full production plan of 42,000 tpm with a full  production rate of 60,000 oz/yr PGM. Current estimates suggest that year-to-date mining costs (on a per tonne basis) would place the mine in a very competitive position relative to the South African platinum mining sector and as the ratio of development material to stoping ore becomes higher the mine will move closer to steady-state production.
The Smokey Hills mine operations have been temporarily suspended as part of an optimization plan to reduce costs and evaluate other opportunities at the mine in light of weak platinum and palladium prices.
